Outlook
Spinach and Arugula Supplies: It appears
the situation has not improved. With recent cold weather
in the Yuma area, we have seen spinach and arugula raw product
greatly affected. Raw product supplies industry wide are unable
to be projected and suppliers have unknown quantities available
until the beginning of each day. Through the balance of next week
and the following week expect inconsistent supplies.
Lettuce:
We are already seeing a yellow cast on all lettuces.
Romaine will show some blister 4-6 leaves deep.
Red Leaf will show some blister 4 leaves deep.
Green Leaf will show an occasional blister.
Head lettuce is showing burned cap leaf but can
trim it off – resulting in a slightly paler head.
Butter is showing more yellow cast.
Cucumbers: Cucumber quality is also something
to watch for these next couple weeks…the off-shore cucumber
quality can turn very quickly. The off-shore cucumbers are packed
2-3 days before they arrive at the US port and can breakdown very
quickly there after. (Good one day, bad the next)
